Crossfit as a training methodology and scalable fitness program has changed my life. Crossfits principles of providing a structured, teachable foundation for learning how to move your body has allowed me to change people’s way of looking at themselves, and what they are capable of doing. Crossfit has removed physical limitations that I didn’t even realize were in my life and provided me with the necessary tools to get past those limitations. If I am able to help someone learn a new skill with their bodies I believe it also helps them mentally. If I am able to help whole groups learn a new skill, as well as provide a place for them to interact with one another, I believe it helps the community I live in as well. To summarize on what I want to achieve as an affiliate, it would be my honor to provide a positive location for people to meet, interact, learn, and develop alongside one another to push past once unattainable goals. I plan to do this by fully integrating Crossfits training methodologies and community centered core values.

Physical activity has been my life. I started playing competitive football in the fields of Houston Texas at the age of 6. That developed into me playing football at Oklahoma State University during my college career. I achieved a certain physical capability at the age of 21 that I thought I would never be able to obtain again. Crossfit not only showed me how to obtain a higher level of fitness but also one that was more conscious of my health.

I found Crossfit in the summer of 2010 during my internship with the Oklahoma State Football weightlifting program. I did Crossfit.com programming for roughly one year before trying out my own programming. I joined Crossfit South Denver in August of 2012. I have instructed at Crossfit South Denver since January of 2013. I immediately saw the advantages of working alongside others who were striving for improvement as well. I attended my Level 1 at the Colorado State Patrol in March of 2013. Level 2 in February of 2015 at Roots in Boulder Colorado.

I am pretty sure that I had never lifted a barbell off the ground, curled a dumbbell, or thrusted any kind of weight over my head for that matter, before I started CrossFit over 7 years ago in Park City, UT.  I had definitely run thousands of trail miles, climbed tons of rocky crags, hiked and skied mountains big and small, and kicked a million soccer balls, but no way could I do a pull-up, a handstand push-up (a what??), or press a measly 20lbs over my head!  CrossFit legend, Chris Spealler trained me in my first little triplet of super light KB Swings, mini box jumps, and featherweight push presses.  I had the very fortunate opportunity to train at his gym for the next 3 years.
I then followed my heart 4 years ago when I moved to Denver from Utah to be with my husband John.  I quickly became pregnant and had my daughter Tessa, who is almost 3 years old now.  Yep, I was one of those crazy pregnant ladies still WODing hard until the day I gave birth!  But honestly, those workouts were the only thing that kept me sane and feeling good, and I fully attribute my quick and smooth labor & delivery to CrossFit.  In October 2011, I became CrossFit Level 1 certified.  A couple of years later in September 2013, I received my CrossFit Gymnastics certification.  I started coaching at CrossFit Denver in 2011 and have been at CrossFit South Denver since 2012.

Growing up, I was a military brat. I was born in Florida (Go University of Miami), moved to Germany where I learned German as my first language, then went to West Point, NY and then when my father retired from the Army we came to Colorado. I have lived in Colorado since I was 12 years old and honestly can’t see myself leaving this beautiful state. I graduated Colorado State University with a BS in Nutrition & Food Sciene. I decided to explore my options in a non-profit tissue bank: AlloSource where I currently work as a processing technician making bone, skin and tendon allografts for patients.

I have always enjoyed working out and being healthy, but in August 2012 I was bored with my normal routine and I wanted to see what all the hype was with Crossfit. I went to my first class at Crossfit Lodo because it was the closest one to my apartment and I bought a groupon deal for cheap. I was sore every day, but found a spark in working out again that I haven’t felt in a while. In October 2012 I bought my first house and moved to Englewood. While driving down Santa Fe one day I saw the sign for Crossfit South Denver and thought I would give it a try. Fell in love with the facility, coaches and atmosphere. Signed up the next day.

I have been doing Crossfit now for over two years, and have been a Level 1 Trainer for one year as of October 2014. I love training myself but have found a true passion in teaching others and improving their well being. I want everyone I teach to know that I am 100% there for them and to help them in anyway possible. I strive to push people to exceed their expectations of themselves.

Hallie Adrian has been a part of the Crossfit South Denver community since 2011.  She checked it out to improve her fitness for her sport, Australian Rules Football (Footy).  She was completely humbled and hooked.  In her first year of Crossfitting, she lost over 25 pounds, got her first of many pull-ups, developed a healthy relationship with food, and even did a Crossfit competition.  This was just the beginning for Hallie.

She credits Crossfit for taking her from being a good footy player to one of the best in the United States.  After starting Crossfit, she has been named Best and Fairest (2012), Most Valuable Player(2014), and Most Consistent (2011) by the United States Australian Football League.  Her team that she captains, the Denver Lady Bulldogs have one 5 Nationals Championships consecutively.  In 2014 she was named to the All-World Team after a stellar performance competing for US Freedom in the 2014 International Cup in Melbourne (VIC), Australia.

Hallie loves coaching and helping people overcome fears.  She remembers coming into the gym with many fears, and overcoming each has been the best part of being a part of this community.  Her favorite movements are rowing, wall balls, and cleans.  She loves being a coach at South Denver because of the emphasis in moving better through mobilizing and technique coaching.

She was repping out pushups and pull-ups in her first elements class.  Lindsey has used Crossfit methodologies to improve her performance as an Australian Rules Football (footy) player.  After doing Crossfit for only 6 months, she was named to the All-World Team in Melbourne (VIC), Australia playing for the US Freedom in the 2011 International Cup.  Lindsey was the leading scorer of this entire international tournament.  She has won 5 consecutive USA National Championships with her team, the Denver Lady Bulldogs.

Lindsey coaching style is very approachable and laid back.  Her coaching environment allows for any questions and special coaching tips to happen without hesitation. Her favorite crossfit movements include overhead squats, snatch, and handstand pushups.

Patrick’s journey to CrossFit glory began when he was but a university student in northern California in the year two thousand and six.  After feeling unmotivated or challenged with the normal gym routine of bicep curl super-sets and bench press, he heard about this new line of workout, CrossFit, whose origins began but a mere 30 minutes from his school.

He began to do it at the university’s gym, much to the chagrin and dismay of other gym patrons.  With the love for CrossFit, nothing else could compare.  Fast forward three years, after a time in which Patrick traveled the world, saved a baby from a burning building, got a corporate job, and completed one successful game of ‘Mine Sweeper’, he again found his way back to CrossFit, this time at CrossFit South Denver.

Patrick has his Level 1 Certification, enjoys meeting new people, helping them achieve their goals in CrossFit, and can always be counted on for a good joke or dance move before a workout.  He is very honored to be a part of such a great coaching staff and gym, and looks forward to coming in the gym every day

Angela started CrossFit in late 2012 at the persuasion of her husband Joseph. Joe is active duty Marine Corps and they were stationed at MCAS Cherry Point in North Carolina at the time. Unlike most athletes, Angela had the privilege of starting her CF journey at a non-profit military affiliate that was established on the base, CrossFit Cherry Point. All the coaches at CFCP volunteered their time to coach multiple classes per day and they relied solely on donations for equipment. It was the epitome of what the CF community is all about. On her first day she remembers seeing the only female coach there, Christy, lifting just as much weight as the guys and then proceeding to out-run them with little effort. She was so strong and confident…and if doing CrossFit made her feel and look like that …then she was in.

After attending classes at CFCP for several months I was fortunate enough to get my L1. I coached at CFCP and then when one of their athletes opened an affiliate out in town, Crossfit Burn, both Joe and Angela happily followed him. While coaching there, Angela obtained her CF Mobility certification. In November of 2013, military orders took Joe and Angela to Denver. She tried out other gyms, but it never felt the same. Angela garage WOD’ed for some time, but that feeling of being a part of a box was missing in her life. In late fall 2014, she tried her first free class on a Saturday with Dan and loved the atmosphere and decided she wanted to become a member. She has said herself, “I really enjoy the people here and I look forward to becoming an integral part of the community that makes CF so special at South Denver.”

Joe began his CrossFit journey in the summer of 2010 as a way to supplement his training for the All Marine Soccer Team. CrossFit Cherry Point was a non-profit affiliate that operated on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina at the time. Joe’s introduction to CrossFit was a 21-15-9 partner workout that included Thrusters and Kettlebell swings with the catch that they had to push a Toyota Tundra 25 yards in between each movement. Joe was captivated by the community that existed in this small group of people that stored their equipment in a storage container and rain or shine lifted outside and suffered together. He quickly made it a habit to attend their classes during his lunch hour sometimes working out in 98 degree weather with 90% humidity. It didn’t bother him because they were all suffering together.

In October of 2010 Joe suffered a broken left tibia and fibula which required surgery and a metal rod to be placed in his leg. He quickly learned that through constant variance and scaled workouts, he could continue to improve his fitness and recover faster. It was then that Joe truly realized the benefits of CrossFit and the idea of constant variance and universal scalability.

Joe attended his Level 1 Course in September of 2011 and quickly absorbed himself into the coaching aspect of better human movement and potential. Since then he has attended the CrossFit Endurance Course, USAW Sports Performance Coaching course, and the Outlaw Training Camp. Joe has coached at two gyms previous to South Denver and he looks forward to sharing his experience and knowledge for many more years to come.

Joe genuinely believes that the power of CrossFit lies in the community built around it. People are inherently competitive and social beings. When we can focus on that community and build the ties that strengthen each individual, we are capable of astonishing things. He will continue to CrossFit for the rest of his life and he wakes up every day excited to see what he is capable of accomplishing.
